Chiropractic is becoming a popular treatment alternative for neurological and skeletal conditions. It involves non-invasive and hands-on procedures to help relieve you of pain, numbness or strain and tension in soft tissue, joints, and bones. Chiropractic is actually a recognized form of alternative medicine that is regulated by law. Chiropractors will undergo a minimum number of years studying the medical science that is chiropractic. Afterward, they can receive a license to operate and practice their profession. Here are the educational requirements that every River of Life chiropractor had to go through:
River of Life Chiropractor Educational Qualifications
A typical chiropractor’s education will involve four years of professional study or as others may call it, post-graduate education. However, before venturing into the professional study, there is a minimum number of years you need to have undertaken. You will need to have undergone four years of undergraduate study in a related course. In America for instance, there is a regulation of the colleges you can attend for your professional study. These colleges have to be approved by the Council for Chiropractic Education. The CCE has 18 institutions in the country where chiropractic education is offered.
What Do Chiropractors Learn in School?
The National Board just like other medical profession regulates chiropractic education and evaluation. The four years that a chiropractor will spend on their post graduate course is divided into four major parts.
- Part 1 – This will take two years and has a lot of introduction courses. Basic sciences are taught in this period. Completion of part 1 will require you to take some board examinations and pass to complete National Boards part 1.
- Part 2- This will also take two years and is more involved with clinical sciences. After studying part 2 to completion, a National Boards part 2 is required to complete the course.
- Part 3 – More focused on physiological therapy and is important for chiropractors that want to venture in deep tissue massage and such. This is the third part of the National Boards education program.
- Part 4 – This is the practical part of the National Boards chiropractic education. In the fourth part of chiropractic training, MRI imaging and x-ray imaging are also taught.
Internship
Internship will take one year and is compulsory for chiropractors. However, before going on internship, you should have completed the National Boards exam. There are also other educational programs that can add value to the education of your River of Life chiropractor.
Post-Graduate Requirements
Many chiropractic colleges offer professional study. Postgraduate courses will take between 1-3 years and can be taken part time or on weekends. The course work involves more than 300 hours of actual chiropractic practice and you have to be in active service for at least five years. The examination will involve an oral and written exam. Examples of postgraduate programs are orthopedics, sports medicine, nutrition, radiology, rehabilitation, neurology, and pediatrics. The chiropractor can choose to take any of these courses and after successful completion; they will be licensed and allowed to practice what they have learned. Please note: It is better to hire a chiropractor who has a postgraduate diploma due to the academic advantage over another, less qualified River of Life chiropractor.
As you can see, going to college to be a chiropractor is no walk in the park. Lots of long hard hours are spent learning how to help patients in the safest way possible.
